Pro Wrestler Bryan Danielson is not bothered by Vitiligo
Bryan Lloyd Danielson aka Daniel Bryan, a famous professional wrestler, is dealing with Vitiligo, a chronic skin condition that affects millions of people across the world. For people living with this ‘innocent’ skin condition, the stigma surrounding it is quite a real challenge and it is such a liberating experience when a celebrity WWE superstar talks about it. It gives so much hope to the whole vitiligo community and helps promote the much required awareness about this autoimmune skin condition.
Bryan has not discussed much about Vitiligo, but he has not been shy about it either. When a female wresting fan on Twitter enquired about the artificial patch on his arm, he non-hesitantly told her that it’s not an artificial patch, but he has got vitiligo and suggested her to check the internet for more info about it.
It clearly reflects his positive mindset towards vitiligo that he is not going to let these white patches come in the way of his professional success.
After all, he is such a big name in the pro-wrestling world and a professional wrestler cannot afford to be affected by poor body image or low confidence. It’s something so unbecoming of a wrestler that s/he got doubt on physical enoughness.
A few words about Vitiligo
Vitiligo is a visible skin condition which is neither lethal nor communicable. It’s an autoimmune issue that develops when the faulty immune system attacks the pigment producing skin cells to cause localized skin depigmentation. Just like other autoimmune challenges, the cure is not available but vitiligo can be managed.
Bryan always wanted to become a professional wrestler
Danielson is a first generation professional athlete who has defied the odds to become what he is today. To support family, he delivered newspapers in childhood and worked at McDonald’s in the teenage. But, he sailed through all sorts of challenges to realize his childhood dream of becoming a successful pro-wrestler.
Hailed as the founding father of ‘Ring of Honor’ wrestling promotion and having enjoyed a very accomplishing run in WWE, Bryan now performs for AEW (All Elite Wrestling) and he has been pitched as one of biggest names in this company.
His love for wrestling is bigger than his medical problems
When he took an early retirement in 2015 on medical grounds, many anticipated his comeback soon citing his passion for wrestling. After his return to the world of wrestling in 2018, Daniel admitted that he had to fight off various personal demons throughout the break and vitiligo was certainly one of them.
Being a real life fighter, he overcame these odds to make a remarkable return by adding WWE world championship to his tally.
“I have had a kind of weak immune system from childhood; sometimes I would miss my school for as long as a full month due to illness. Being a pro-wrestler, you follow a hectic schedule and remain on the road all the time and it further messed up my problems.”
In 2009, he turned vegan to treat various medical issues, including staph infections, liver issues and skin infections. This strategy paid him well and apart from improvement in health, he got the PETA Libby’s most animal friendly sports athlete award as well in 2012. However, due to problems in finding suitable vegan food options while on the roads and a soy allergy, he is not a full-time vegan anymore.
Don’t give up on your dreams due to vitiligo
So, if you have dreamt of becoming a professional athlete, sports person, or a fitness model but doubtful of success prospects due to vitiligo, Bryan Danielson’s illustrious career should dispel those fears now.
Bryan has never stopped believing in himself and is passionately pursuing his dreams. He is inspiring his fans to always follow their hearts and not focus on what others say. Let’s take inspiration from Danielson’s life and keep trying to be the best version of our lives that we can possibly become. We wish all the very best to Bryan Danielson in his future endeavors and hope this write up will lift the spirit of vitiligo community to rise above the ‘skin’ thing and follow their passions and chase their dreams.
