The Legendary Amitabh Bachchan is also dealing with Vitiligo
Today’s famous celebrity with vitiligo is the ‘tight-lipped’ Amitabh Bachchan, who has never talked about his vitiligo. I couldn’t find any of his interview or statement admitting his skin condition. Well, I don’t know if someone has even asked him about it or not?
India is a country of more than 1.3 billion people having a few millions of people dealing with vitiligo. Referred to as one of the largest growth engines in the world, India is among the G20 countries with the highest growth rate. Thanks to this rapid socio-economic progress, the environment has improved considerably in educational institutions and workplaces for people with vitiligo.
However, vitiligo is still a taboo due to numerous social misconceptions and myths. The inability of the medical world to provide a concrete treatment adds further fuel to the negative perception among people.
To set the record straight, vitiligo is a non-painful, non-fatal and non-contagious skin condition that doesn’t stop a person from achieving all the personal and professional life goals. It doesn’t have any other major complications than affecting the skin color.
We strive to come up with famous people in India, dealing with vitiligo, to give hope and break the shackles of the myth of vitiligo. Earlier, we have published posts on Gautam Singhania, N Chandrababu Naidu and Asifa Bhutto Zardari; Asifa is the daughter of former PM of Pakistan and lives in Pakistan, that is the Indian subcontinent.
Amitabh Bachchan does really got vitiligo?
Amitabh Bachchan’s has talked on and off about his various health problems, including hepatitis B, tuberculosis, intestinal injuries and neck and back pain. But, there has been nothing about vitiligo. So, I am really not sure if he really got vitiligo. But, the various credible resources over the Internet have highlighted it and if has been all ‘hollow’ without any substance, Amitabh Bachchan would have sued them for spreading rumors about his health. (1, 2, 3)
So, we will take that he has got vitiligo and not comfortable in accepting it, just like Chandrababu Naidu. Certainly, the negative social perception of vitiligo is stopping him.
Well, he is a living legend; one of the all time biggest superstars the Indian Cinema has produced.
We all love him, admire him and take inspiration from him. Wish he shares his thoughts on living with vitiligo anytime soon. His open acceptance of vitiligo will surely make the life of fellow people with vitiligo easier and they will feel empowered.

If you haven’t watched enough of Indian Cinema and doesn’t know much about this man, then it’s my duty to give a quick glance of his iconic status.
Amitabh Bachchan mainly works in the Hindi film industry, also known as Bollywood, but any list of the top 5 actors in the Indian cinema would not complete without him. His first movie, as actor, came way back in 1969 and has acted in more than 200 movies so far. He has got 3 more movies to be released this year- an illustrious career spanning several decades and still going on successfully.
- IMDB.com has ranked him number 4 in the list of top 20 actors in Indian Cinema. (4)

Also known as Big B, Star of the millennium, the Shahenshah (king) of Bollywood– Mr Bachchan has taken the Hindi film industry to places and you must be encouraged to know that he also belongs to the vitiligo community. 🙂
